Yitachu releases book on teachers

A book entitled “Professionalism and empowerment of teachers” authored by Zavise Rume and Kewepelo-u Kapfo was released by the Parliamentary Secretary for School Education, Yitachu, on July 3 during the 1st Nagaland Government School Teachers Conference.
The book discusses professional status of teachers while also attempting to explore and discover the true meaning of teaching as profession and its professionalism, to understand the professional status, discusses the professional identity crisis of teachers, professional freedom, teachers’ professional organization and professional development, and the ethics of teaching and professional codes of ethics.
The book also discusses various concepts of teaching empowerment, how teachers could be empowered, teacher empowerment and its contributions to school effectiveness.
It also talked about the professional competencies, professional commitments and professional performances of teachers.
Further, the book talks about some specific role of teachers in relation to the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.
“Every teacher should first know his or her profession. Therefore, teaching professionalism and teacher empowerment should essentially form as part and parcel of teacher education and training programme,” the gist of the book stated.
The book would be useful for the students of Post Graduate degree, students of teacher education programmes like D.Ed, B.Ed, M.Ed, teacher educators, school teachers, research scholars and social workers interested in education. Published by Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur, the book is priced at Rs. 350.
