GSUM observes Bhanu Acharya Birth Anniv in Mkg

Gorkha Students’ Union of Mokokchung (GSUM) celebrated the 200th Bhanu Jayanti Birth Anniversary at the Town Hall July 13 with MLA O Imtikumzuk Longkumer as the chief guest and Ao students’ conference (AKM) general secretary Bendangkumgba as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest described the Gorkha community as “builders of societies around the world”. Stating that the Gorkhas were a part and parcel in founding Mokokchung Town, Imtikumzuk urged the present community youth to emulate the principles of Bhanu Jayanti and contribute to the society as pioneers.
As part of the auspicious occasion in paying homage to the founder of the Gorkha script, Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, the HSLC Toppers Abigal Rai (Top 20) and Joyti Gurung (Top 32) were felicitated.
Winners of the poem competition Sharmila (first) and Swastik Rai (second) and painting competition, Urmila Chetri (first) and Prabhat Rai (second) were presented with prizes by the chief guest.
Bendangkumgba also delivered a short speech as guest of honour.
The programme was chaired by GSU vice president Samarika Rai and the welcome address by general secretary Prabhat Rai. The significance of the day was highlighted by joint secretary Sunita Pradhan while the vote of thanks GSU president Peter Alley. The formal programme was followed by an entertainment session.
