Trg on silkworm rearing in Nuiland town

To upgrade the knowledge and skills of the youths and potential farmers, one day training programme on Eri and Muga Silkworm rearing was organized by agricultural technology management agency (ATMA) Dimapur July 12 at Nuiland town.
At the training programme, the resource person department of sericulture extension officer Khezeto spoke on the different methods of rearing silkworm. The participants were imparted knowledge on nurseries for raising som seedlings, seed grainage, rearing of Muga silkworm, reeling of muga cocoon, muga diseases, collection of DFLs, Chowki rearing, brushing, spinning and harvesting of cocoons, etc.
They also visited Som plantations and silkworm rearing activities under Muga Farm School.
Delivering a short speech, progressive Muga farmer Kahoto said after venturing into Muga silkworm culture with the plantation of som trees as host plant on a five-acre area at Niuland town.
He has established two more farms at Ghotovi village with an area of 40 hectares with more than 93,000 numbers of som tree plantations.
He has also received various awards for his contribution and dedication in Eri and Muga rearing. Muga farmer expressed gratitude to ATMA Dimapur for supporting him by organizing trainings and various other programmes. Altogether, 30 participants attended the programme.
