Along with the rest of the country , the 15th Vijay Diwas in honour of the Kargil war heroes was celebrated at Pheza, (Nerhema) village on Saturday. Rich tribute was paid to late Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (posthumous) organized by IGAR (N), around 18 km away from the state capital.
Lt. Gen. S.L. Narasimhan GOC 3 corps in his address said Capt Neikezhakuo made a supreme sacrifice, stood tall and served a purpose for the cause of the nation. He said the late Captain was one of the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation in the Kargil war.
He described Neikezhakuo as “one of the true sons of Nagaland” and said his sacrifice was a source of encouragement for everyone.
Neiselie Kenguruse, the father of late Capt. N. Kenguruse in his brief speech said he remembered the pain of losing his beloved son in the Kargil war. Neiselie shared the last words of his son writing to him about the intense battle fought in Kargil.
He expressed gratitude to 11 Assam Rifles (AR) for maintaining his son’s graveyard and making it into a memorial which would inspire for all the young generations.
The Captain’s father said: “He is not my son alone but a son of the nation.”
The programme was led by Maj. Hitesh of 11 AR Chiephobozou. Director Rajya Sainik welfare and resettlement Nagaland Brig. (Rtd) K.K. Roy Choudhury highlighted the army recruitment rally and also shared the opportunity and facilities available for the ex-servicemen and their wards.
The programme was attended by ranks and files of AR, officers, village GBs, Kenguruse’s family members and relatives, ex-servicemen, school children and others.
Many high ranking AR officers, including APO president and others laid wreath at the tomb of late Captain.
It may be mentioned that Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC son of Neisielie Kenguruse of Nerhema village was born on July 15, 1974. He did his schooling at St Xavier’s School, Jalukie and graduated from Kohima Science College.
He served as a teacher at the Government High School, Kohima from 1994 to 1997 and was commissioned into Indian Army on December 12, 1998.
On June 28, 1999, during Kargil War, he attained martyrdom while destroying an enemy bunker. He also singlehandedly killed four enemy soldiers. He was awarded the prestigious Mahavir Chakra for the gallant act by the President of India.
