KU Aboi unit appeals for re-examining road diversion

Drawing attention to the proposal to divert Aboi-Longleng road to Longchang, the Konyak Union (KU), Aboi Unit has appealed to the authority responsible to re-examine the matter for smooth execution of the project.
In a press release, KU Aboi unit president A. Nanwang Konyak stated that the proposal for diversion of this alignment to cover Longchang would only lengthen the road by about 50 km. KU Aboit unit stated that this would be only a liability for the department and also create inconveniences for the commuters.
The KU unit therefore said diversion to any other places would neither be viable nor acceptable to the People of Aboi and Longleng.
According to KU Aboi unit president A. Nanwang, Aboi-Longleng road was one of the oldest roads in Nagaland, constructed during 1960-61 and second cutting was done in the year 1963-64.
Again, new diversion toward Aboi-Yangmon was done during 2004-05 by constructing Pucca Bridge at Shingphang, which shortened the distance between Aboi to Longleng by about 23 km.
Besides, KU unit also stated that 14 km stretch from Longleng to Shiyong River has been blacktopped with pucca bridge.
Stating that remaining portion was to be blacktopped with some re-grading and diversion from Yangmon to Aboi, the KU Aboi unit said in connection with this the executive engineer PWD Aboi had already submitted the proposal for diversion from Aboi to Yangmon River.
Asserting present existing road from Apoa junction to Changtongya via Sowachangle to Longleng should be retained in the interest and welfare of the people of Mon and Longleng districts, the KU unit said existing road was the best alignment as there was no sharp/zig-zag turning, no high and rocky portion and no high grading along that stretch.
