Nagaland chief secretary Banuo Z Jamir inaugurated the monument of the first chief minister of Nagaland, P. Shilu Ao at Longjang village, Mokokchung district August 1 as chief guest along with Alemtemshi Jamir as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, chief secretary described late P. Shilu Ao as a man who excelled and succeeded in his life even though he struggled initially and sacrificed a lot for the people of Nagaland.
Banuo said “today we will not really feel the kind of sacrifices P. Shilu and the other Interim Body members have made for the people of the state”. She felt it was necessary for the older generation to pass on the history to the younger generation.
“We are the beneficiaries of their hard work,” she stated. The chief secretary said the monument should be of significance not only for Longjang but the whole of Nagaland.
In his speech, Alemtemshi said the Memorial for P. Shilu Ao comes in a good time since Nagaland was celebrating 50 years of statehood and it was because of his efforts that Nagaland came into existence as the 16th State under the Indian Union.
He also said Longjang has been blessed with a good number of officers and leaders and called on them to continue working for the people of Nagaland.
A note of appreciation on behalf of the family members of Late P. Shilu Ao was made by assistant development commissioner T. Anungba Pongen . The programme was chaired by Tiatoshi Longkumer and was organised by the Riongsanger Cultural Club. A special song was present by Chubatsur Jamir while Pastor, Longjang Compound Baptist Arogo, Mar Aier said benediction.
