Kohima Law College, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority & Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) have jointly organized legal rights awareness campaign at Model Christian College, Kohima, on August 5.
The awareness campaign was conducted primarily to constitute State Food Commission and internal grievance redressal mechanism at both State and district level to monitor effective implementation of National Food Security Act, 2013.
The program was chaired by the Principal of the college and the welcome address was delivered by the Managing Director of the college, SP Francis.
The speakers were Kezhokhoto Savi, Inakali Sumi, Kedunol Kikhi, Esther, Dolrich Tep, Mhasikhonu Phinyo, Juvi Zhimomi and Tahlem Konyak.
During the interaction with students, the team said if at all the State government is serious with National Food Security Act, 2013, the state must constitute ‘State Food Commission’ for the purpose of monitoring and reviewing the implementation of National Food Security Act, 2013 and also to set up an Internal Grievance Redressal Mechanism at both State and district level.
The speakers elaborated that the Act is to address the problems of hunger, poverty and undernourishment in the country, adding food security refers to the availability of food and one’s access to it.
Speakers said a household is considered food secure when its occupants do not live in hunger or fear of starvation.
