Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has appreciated the Narendra Modi led government for the timely intervention on the ongoing tension along Nagaland-Assam border.
In a press release, MCCI president Moasangba Jamir expressed the hope that border issues would be resolved at the earliest and normalcy restored besides finding a permanent solution acceptable to both sides.
He said that Nagas and Ahoms have since time immemorial been living and coexisting as good neighbours and the bond and spirit of brotherhood could be witnessed to this day.
He also pointed out that it would be a blunder to destroy the relationship between the two sides because of the unresolved border issue and the recurrent spates of violence.
MCCI president said both parties should engage in dialogue to resolve the issue sooner than later, leaving no room for “opportunist adversaries” to exploit and benefit out of the issue.
MCCI said without the Centre’s intervention, the situation could have worsened, violence escalated and more lives lost leaving innocent people suffering for no fault of theirs besides causing huge economic loses.
MCCI lauded Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, for his pre-emptive steps taken to contain the situation and chief ministers of Nagaland and Assam for agreeing to resolve  the long-pending border issue.
MCCI said it was “comforted” on learning of that the economic blockade imposed on Nagaland by various Assam-based organizations was being lifted and pointed out that the blockades caused huge monetary losses to business community.
