Excise Dimapur district on Saturday destroyed 1184 cases of assorted Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth 10 lakh (approximately) at its office premises.
The liquor was seized by 29 Assam Rifles on September 12 from a truck (AS 03 A 2783) and handed over to the department for further investigation and necessary action.
In a press handout by deputy commissioner excise Lanuwati Jamir informed that on August excise Dimapur district seized 7042 bottles of assorted liquor and Rs. 2, 48, 900 was imposed as fine.
He also informed that till September 15, excise Dimapur district has seized 2606 bottles of assorted liquor and has imposed a fine of Rs. 2, 12, 000 making a total of Rs. 4, 60, 900 as revenue.
Jamir said that the excise department was keeping vigil round the clock to curb illegal supply and smuggling in the district as well as the state.
Though with limited manpower, he said that the department was trying to best to make liquor prohibition a “success” terming prohibition as “people war”
