NE youth peace festival culminates

The 7th North East Youth Peace and Cultural Festivals concluded here on Sunday with Peace Award ceremony at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School Campus, Dimapur. The occasion was graced by School of Management Studies, NU, Assistant Professor Ditalak Mpanme as the chief guest and Fr. Chacko, Rector of Good Shepherd Seminary, as the special guest.
Addressing the occasion, the chief guest has lauded Peace Channel for doing commendable job for the society and was pleased to observe that majority of the members were youth who hold the keys to nation building. He also highlighted about the slow development in the state, scarcity of universities and small scale industries due to absence of peace in the state.
During the valedictory function, ‘Peace Award 2014’ was given to Secretary of Eleutheros Christian Society, Tuensang, Rev. Dr. Chingmak Kejong, for his service to the humanity and people of Tuensang. The peace award recipient, in his peace acceptance message, said the prize was the recognition of the true value of selflessness, love, compassion and non-violence which he tried to practice in accordance with the teachings of Christ.
He also lamented that the people of Tuensang continues to be most alienated from basic human development and were victims of regionalism and non-recognition.
To mark the special occasion, various activities were presented by the participants including folk dance by Rongmei dance troupe, classical dance by Sushmita Dey, group dance by Zakiesato Memorial Higher Secondary School, entertainment by 6 Strings etc.
On the occasion, a documentary on “Calls of Peace” produced by Doordarshan Kohima Kendra was released.
On behalf of the organizing committee, Director of Peace Channel, Fr. CP Anto has expressed gratitude to Doordarshan Kohima, for sponsoring the documentary expenses and State Bank of India (SBI), Dimapur, for sponsoring the Peace Award 2014, with a sum of Rs 10000.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by vice principal of Holy Cross Fr. Sunil and a welcome address by Liangamang Robert.
