Dimapur Christian Forum (DCF) organised seminar on alcohol abuse, HIV and AIDS on September 27, at AIDA, Don Bosco, Dimapur.
At the seminar, which was sponsored by Legislator’s Form on AIDS (LFA), the forum resolved to carry on the awareness message of HIV and AIDS, alcoholic usage to continue to work to educate public on Church perspective and conduct such advocacy seminar.
During the session, resource person ART Dimapur medical officer (MO) Dr.Molusen Jamir spoke on the technical aspect of HIV and AIDS.
He said ‘HIV is no longer treated as death sentences diseases it is rather considered as chronic manageable social disease’, like hypertension, diabetics etc.
Dr.Molusen also said to advocate the epidemic collective efforts would be required from students, church and individuals. He further stressed on the use of ART, on possible solutions for better management of ART- in line with prevention, treatment, care and support to the infected patients.
Meanwhile, LFA state consultant Dr.Vinito Chishi highlighted the objectives of LFA. He also stressed on faith based multidisciplinary activities including health related activities, health promotion programme, preventive health and social service interconnection between public health and health education, etc.
Speaking on the topic HIV-TB stigma and discrimination, NSACS programme officer in charge of TB Dr.Rose Chakhesang informed the participants about the spread of TB and its treatment.
He urged upon Churches, NGOs, etc to join hands and fight against the disease and organize awareness, health education, outreach, counselling service, testing, treatment, advocacy, home base care, etc for PLHWA.
LFA programme assistant Hukatoli Choppy shared on sex, sexuality and gender — its risk and factor.
Earlier, delivering keynote address DCF Chairman Rev. R. P. Murry highlighted on the DCF history from its inception way back to 1998 and its objective to address issues on social, theological, doctrinal and interfaith related concerns. Altogether, 120 participants from Church, College and NGO attended the seminar.
