Training and exposure visit to Myanmar farmers, organized by Spices Board, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, under Large Cardamom Development Project, funded by Ministry of External Affairs, was held September 29 at Conference Hall, DC office Mon with sub-divisional office SDO (civil) Mon Ilika as chief guest.
Speaking at the programme, SDO (civil) Mon expressed gratitude to Spices Board for organizing training programme, saying by training the farmers they would get more knowledge about the farming and also help promote farming export and import.
SDO (civil) requested the trainees from Myanmar to give importance and pay attention during the training so that one could learn the method of farming. Further, she requested them to train other farmers when they go back home.
SDO (civil) maintained that the training was not only about the farming but also to keep a good relationship between the two countries.
District horticulture officer (DHO) Mon, Y.Bongti Konyak, in his short speech, shared about the existence of cardamom in Mon District and its benefits to the farmers.
DHO requested the Board to provide quality technology to the farmers, better forest harvest management and proper marketing agencies. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by B.D.Sharma, SFO, Spices Board, Aizawl. Introductory remark by Dr.A.K.Vijayan deputy director, ICRI, Spices Board, Gangtok, Sikkim and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.T.N.Deka Scientist C Spices Board, Itanager.
Later, the Technical was held on crop improvement, Agro techniques and Insect Pest management in large Cardamom by Dr.T.N.Deka, Scientist C Spices Board, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
