In a reported inter factional clash, Saturday wee hours, one GPRN/NSCN cadre identified as ‘lieut’ Aviho Yepthomi of Saghemi village was killed in a gun fight with NSCN (K) cadres at Phongkhuri village along the India-Myanmar International border.
Talking to Nagaland Post, highly placed GPRN/NSCN sources claimed that the NSCN (K) cadres ambushed their cadres when they were on their way to receive ration from Phonkhuri villagers.
The source said the late Aviho who was armed, was leading the other three unarmed cadres. Aviho was killed on the spot during the ambush, the source said. Stating that though GPRN/NSCN had the capacity and ability to retaliate to any provocation, the source, however said the group was adhering to Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) call for peace within its jurisdiction. It was now up to the ENPO people to judge, the source added. It also accused NSCN (K) of ‘glorifying’ the death by exaggerating the death toll.
Meanwhile, a NSCN (K) leader talking to Nagaland Post claimed that GPRN/NSCN cadres on Saturday at around 4 to 5 a.m. attacked the NSCN (K) outpost at Phongkhuri. NSCN (K) cadres stationed in the area informed us that in retaliation three GPRN/NSCN cadres were killed, the source said.
