Two held for collecting tax

Personnel of 29 Assam Rifles, under the aegis of headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles, apprehended one alleged NSCN (I-M) cadre from Hongkong Market area while “collecting tax” on October 10. The accused was identified as “capt” Vezolo Doulo of NSCN (I-M) and a resident of Phek district, stated a press release issued by PRO, IGAR (N).
Extortion money amounting to Rs 47,130 and 26 work permits were also seized from his possession,” PRO said, adding that the individual was earlier apprehended by 29 Assam Rifles on September 17 from “illegal office cum detention centre” (OADT) of NSCN (I-M) at Half Nagarjan, Dimapur, for criminal offences including abduction, illegal confinement and extortion but was later released on bail by the Court on September 31. The accused along with the recovered items were handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur.
In another operation, personnel of 29 AR based on information about tax collection at Rail Bazaar Colony October 11 apprehended one “tax collector’ and seized “unauthorised money and DMC cash receipt booklets.” The accused was identified as Kika Zima and was forwarded to sub-urban police station, Dimapur, along with the seized items.
