Pig shed of All India Coordinated Research Project on Pig was inaugurated by vice chancellor of Nagaland University (NU), Professor B. K. Konwar on October 8, at School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development, NU Medziphema Campus.
During the inauguration, the vice chancellor expressed happiness over the steady progress of AICRP-Pig run by the department of Livestock Production & management (LPM).
Lauding the “visible” development of pig project, Professor B. K. Konwar expressed hope that the service would definitely benefit the animal farming community.
He also called upon all the departmental HoDs and teachers present to continue to give joint affords for more infrastructure and develop the campus making the best use of fund. The genesis of Nagaland AICRP-Pig project was presented by in-charge of the project Dr. M. Catherine Rutsa. Rutsa mentioned that the project was now working towards producing 75% germ-plasm of Exotic and 25% local. She explained that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) New Delhi, is funding the research work, the department of LPM, Engineering Section SASRD took the active role for the completion of the pig shed designed by the NEPED-NRTT Kohima.
The project in-charge further shared the future plan of three more similar animal sheds within 5 years and vision for 10 years which includes setting up of animal feed plants, a model pork slaughter cum processing centre for students, entrepreneurs and farmers.
Invocation was said by assistant professor of Agricultural Economics Dr. R. Nakhro, HoD department of LPM Dr. V. K. Vidyarthi said the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Pro. vice chancellor, SASRD-NU Medziphema campus professor N S Jamir.
