ANCSU to launch agitation if govt. fails to address lapses

All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) Tuesday said the union would launch a stir if the state government failed to address the series of lapses and loopholes in the technical education department by setting up a High Level Committee (HLC) to probe the anomalies.
The union also informed that it would hold a demonstration at the technical education department directorate on October 28 at 9 a.m. as per the union’s resolution passed during a meeting held on Tuesday.
ANCSU Fact Finding Committee (FFC) chairman O. Wati Jamir during a press conference on Tuesday said since 2010, the adoption of All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) for selecting candidates for MBBS/BDS seats had led to loopholes and anomalies detrimental to students’ career.
Stressing on the need for a thorough probe, Wati Jamir said as per the nodal department, none of the candidates from the state qualified in AIPMT and subsequently the department conducted Nagaland State Pre-Medical Test (NSPMT).
This, Wati Jamir said had created “confusion and controversy” in the minds of the students due to various reasons. He said the decision of the technical education department to select students for MBBS/BDS based on AIPMT/NSPMT on the ratio of 60:40 was without merit and highly controversial as only selected students were allowed to sit for NSPMT while denying the same to hundreds of other students who had sat for AIPMT.
ANCSU president Tsukjem Longkumer said the union worked for the student community without targeting any individual and urged the department to rectify the lapses and loopholes by setting up a high level committee for corrective measures.
The FFC members informed that a representation against irregularity in the functioning of the technical education department and for necessary action has been submitted to the chief minister T.R. Zeliang on October 20.
In the representation, the union had stated that state government should constitute a high level committee to probe the entire episode of lapses and to come up with a recommendation for streamlining the system.
NCSU asked if the government’s decision to follow JEE (mains) and AIPMT system even for state reserved seats were feasible for the students and said the state government should constitute a High Level Committee to probe into the entire episode of lapses and asked the government to come up with recommendations for streamlining the system.
ANCSU also asked whether the government should follow the system of conducting exam through JEE (mains) and AIPMT under the aegis of CBSE or should the government revert back to the old system of state JEE. The union also wanted to find out the factors which had led to Naga students under Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) not been able to qualify in AIPMT.
