Peace Channel family of Kiphire district organized a one-day peace and cultural celebration recently at Saramati High School Campus, Kiphire on the theme “Inspiring Change Towards a Violence Free World.”
The event was organized with the objective of preventing conflicts by engaging, empowering and enabling the youth as peace builders.
In the present context where Naga society was undergoing conflict situation, youth were called to be peace builders and agents of peace in the families and communities.
In his address, T. Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (C), who graced the occasion as chief guest, encouraged the students to be “firm” with their cause and be patient living up to the cause to change the society.
He maintained that it was not only the job of the administrative, military, civil society leaders or any other officers to bring peace but was also the duty of every individual to contribute and bring solutions and lasting peace in the society.
Guest of honour, principal, Trinity High School, Kiphire, A. J. Sebastian, urged the students to learn and follow one’s ancestral cultures as to safeguard it from vanishing. He also called for keeping intake one’s identity, stating that it was the culture and peace that brought people together irrespective of religion and region. At the time, the guest of honour also stressed on inculcating and preserving dying culture and values of peace and harmonious living.
USCC information secretary, Akheto, also encouraged the students and at the same time challenged them to come forward leaving aside their petty differences and join hands to promote love and peace in the society.
Earlier, the programme started with invocation by Jijo, Loyola Higher Secondary School, while vote of thanks was proposed by Tsapikyu, Peace Channel coordinator, Kiphire. Over three hundred youth participated in the programme and pledged to stand for peace.
