Association of Mechanical Engineers (AME) has deferred the proposed sit-in protest scheduled from December 1-8 on account of the visit of the Union Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to the State capital.
AME has proposed the sit-in protest against the alleged lack of response from the State government regarding the implementation of Engineering Service Rule (ESR) in the recruitment of AMEs and JEs in PWD (Mechanical). The Association president, Er. Alemtoshi Imsong, stated that AME has repeatedly appealed the authorities for the implementation of ESR through memorandums addressed to the Chief Engineer, Commissioner and Secretary and even to the chief minister. He said the State Governor had expressed solidarity with the Association and assured to see through the matter and referred the case to the concerned minister which is still pending.
It alleged that hardly 26% of Assistant Mechanical Engineers and 7% of Junior Engineers are recruited through the NPSC against a total 60% and 90% respectively as per Engineering Service Rule. The statement said that the Association has demanded immediate implementation of ESR by sending requisition to NPSC for the two Assistant Mechanical Engineer posts currently lying vacant and nine JE posts currently appointed on contract basis.
Stating that the Association had repeatedly appealed the authorities to solve the issue since the last seven months, it alleged that the delay tactic is providing the contract employees to be regularized in due course of time. In the light of the above stated circumstances, the Association has appealed the authority concerned to look into the matter before it resort to other means for their rights.
