Hornbill fest: NE cultural items showcased

Day-2 of the ongoing Hornbill festival at Kisama, 10 km away from the state capital, witnessed Northeast cultural items with the theme “culturally yours” where numbers of folk dances from seven states of North East India, organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC). 
Ao community from Nagaland performed Nuknarar Tsungsang – a folk dance usually celebrated after youths found new lovers after attaining marriageable age. In the course of the dance, the youths make efforts to get to know each and express their interests.
The cultural troupe from Manipur performed three dances namely -kharing kharak pheichak, Thang-ta and Lai haraoba dances. Kung-kung go dance of Sikkim signifies the celebration of victory with melodious song and mesmerizing dance by the young boys and girls.
This was followed by Erap dance of Arunachal Pradesh (Galo community) and Jhumur dance of Assam performed by tea tribes.
Cheraw dance of Mizoram is a lively and uniquely attractive traditional dance known as bamboo dance performed on all festive occasions.
Chief Minister of Sagaing region U Thar Aye and Chief Minister of Kachin state Ulajan Ngan Sai, both from Myanmar were the special guests during the Northeast cultural day. The other dignitaries from Myanmar who attended the celebration include MLA, U. Sein Tun, Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhaya and his lady wife who is also the Secretary of India, Nengcha.
Those who attended the second say celebration include forest minister Dr. Nicky Kire, minister for rural development C.L John, parliamentary secretary for tourism E.E Pangteng, parliamentary secretary for school education Yitachu and others officials.
