Excise destroys items worth over ` 1 cr

Excise department, Dimapur Saturday destroyed seized narcotic and other drugs worth Rs. 1, 90,28,300 (one crore ninety lakhs twenty thousand and three hundred) at excise directorate, Dimapur.
Altogether 27 cases containing drugs like cocaine, heroin, brown sugar, opium, ganja, spasumo proxyvon, nitrosun and cough syrup were destroyed.
The drugs seized between July 27 to November 6 were consigned to flames in the presence of district magistrate, judicial officer and church member.
Delivering a short speech at the destruction function, commissioner of excise Maongwati said Nagaland being located near the ‘golden triangle’ was a location used transit point by drug dealers and there was a need to curb the menace.
He also informed that the government has formed District Prohibition Committee (DPC) in all districts to be headed by the DC with members from the church or NGOs and other government officials.
DABA associate pastor  Rev. Lima Jamir who also spoke on the occasion lauded the excise department for rendering commendable services to the society,
He however lamented that alcohol was being “sold and available in the shops and hotels near excise office gate and its surroundings.”
He urged the excise department to check those places and said that it was the duty of every citizen curb anti social elements which was destroying the society.
