Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) has organised an awareness campaign cum social work at Nazareth High School, Purana Bazaar, East Dimapur, on February 21.
The social work was undertaken along NH-29 by clearing the drainage on the theme “Let the drainage flow freely” under National Environment Awareness Campaign. The awareness campaign cum social work was supported by the Nazareth High School (NHS) teachers and students.
The board had an interaction with the students on causes of blockage to drainage. A student of Class IX Pukhashe Sumi, son of Ghovishe, has attributed to throwing of plastic bags, bottles and other waste materials for blockage adding the main cause is improper coverage of drains.
In a press release Chairman DRFCB, Hokheto Kiba, stated that the construction of drainage work taken up by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) at Purana Bazar (East Dimapur) area which was kept incomplete has caused blockage of drains and also caused severe flood on the National Highway – 29. DRFCB appealed to the BRO to make the construction work convenient to the general public before the rainy season.
