Serious acts of misconduct and unnecessary harassment meted out to public by personnel of the 14 IRB (C company) on February 26 had sparked outrage by the public of Longkhim.
It was learnt that the jawans of C company of 14 IRB who were deployed for mobile highway patrol at the Helipong-Chari route, had harassed the public passing through. In some cases, it was alleged that some innocent people were beaten up for no reason while in some cases, vehicle owners were asked to pay money. Even shops were ordered to close.
On being informed of the complaints and misbehaviour of the errant jawans of the 14 IRB, the senior officers rushed to Longkhim the same night and initiated immediate action against those found guilty.
According to police sources, all those found guilty were repatriated back to their parent units with recommendation for strict disciplinary action as per rules. In addition, necessary punitive action was being taken and departmental procedures also initiated.
