Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has requested Nagaland based NGOs and responsible pressure groups to come together and address the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants (IBI) in the right platform at the earliest.
Talking to media persons at Dimapur Airport to see off the dead body, MCD working president, A. Rahman said that a saturating point has come for all responsible organizations to come together and address the issue.
“A thousand years cannot clear this issue nor do we want this kind of issue to be repeated rather the issue of illegal Bangladeshis should be taken up with the civil societies or any responsible organisations who can take the lead”, he added.
While clarifying, he lamented that many people are of the opinion that all the people from Karimganj, Nagaon and other Assam districts bordering Bangladesh were illegal immigrants. Genuine Indian citizens hailing from these areas are at the receiving end and facing huge problems everywhere, he said.
He also admitted that the council may not have shown their sincerity in apprising and addressing the Naga citizens about who is a genuine citizen and who is an illegal immigrant.
Further, Rahman said Syed Khan, the alleged rapist, was a bonafide Indian citizen. This was verified when two MCD members were sent to verify about his antecedents. The council members met police personnel and had also met immediate relatives.
On further inquiry, the driving license produced to them by the police revealed that he was from Bosla village under Karimganj district, Assam.
He also said that Syed’s father was an ex-serviceman in the Indian army and has one elder brother who is an officer (Major) in the Army.
