LLT demands justice for late Nungshilila

March 14, 2015 | by admin

A year and eight months after the horrific murder of Nungshilila Jamir at Residency Colony Dimapur on July 4, 2013 the accused have been acquitted since Dimapur Police had bungled the case starting from the investigation stage, collection and use of material evidence and inordinate delays in obtaining forensic reports that had led to the case falling apart.
In this regard, the Longkhum Lanur Telongjem (LLT) of Longkhum village (the village of late Nungshilila) maintained she was raped and brutally murdered while staying in the residence of her brother-in law on a visit to Dimapur.
LLT president Lolen Jamir and secretary Toshi Pongen have addressed a representation to the chief minister of Nagaland, in which they demanded that the murderers be brought to justice as it remained the solemn duty of a democratic government.
LLT charged Dimapur Police of being “insensitive and ineffectual” by bungling the investigation on a case that turned one of the most simplest of rape and murder case into “ a complex one that led to the acquittal of the accused.”
LLT said the bungling of the case by Dimapur Police was evident at several stages such as : (a) while filing F.I.R. at West Police Station Dimapur; (b) not taking finger prints from the crime scene (c) not sending seized articles and the alleged murder weapon for chemical tests to the Forensic Laboratory (Central Science Forensic Laboratory Kolkata); (d) not producing the blood-stained jacket recovered from the residence of one of the accused in court during trial and (e) not recording confessions of the accused in accordance with the law by the Magistrate on duty.
Pointing to the above, LLT said it was incomprehensible, that such lapses while investigating rape and murder were committed by a modern police and took further dig at Dimapur Police saying it should not be only a salary consuming police.
In view of such lapses, LLT further demanded, that the government institute a thorough probe by a high ranking official of the state to find out the conspiracy behind Dimapur Police intentionally losing the rape and brutal murder case.
LLT has demanded that the state government accede to its above demands within April 10,2015 and that the government’s response be intimated either through the DC Mokokchung or the local media. LLT also cautioned that in the event of the government’s failure to accede to its demands, LLT will reserve the right to follow its own course of action as deemed fit and proper as practised by the forefathers. LLT said its action was to ensure that justice be delivered to the raped and brutally murdered victim.
Adds NPN: What the case also highlights is the lack of professionalism by investigating agency whether due to political or other influences.
On July 4, 2013 the horrific and shocking sight of the 35-year old victim’s half naked body who was throttled, stabbed, bludgeoned and broom stick forced into her private parts continue to haunt the colony. However, Dimapur Police did not quarantine the crime scene and allowed hordes of inquisitive people wanting to seen the grisly sight and thereby disturbing the crime scene.
