Considerable speculations arose after two MLAs from Niathu camp met with NPF Central president Dr. Shürhozelie Monday in Kohima. The two MLAs– E.E. Panteang of 48 Moka A/C and Naiba Konyak of Tobu A/C have not returned to Dimapur.
Sources close to one of them, told Nagaland Post that they would remain in Kohima. This fuelled speculation that both have joined Dr. Shürhozelie/T.R. Zeliang camp. When asked , one MLA in Niathu camp said both had gone to meet Dr. Shürhozelie on a “reconciliation mission” and refuted that they have joined T.R. Zeliang group.
With both NPF camps having a total of 19 legislators each (though the Speaker is neutral); if the two have indeed joined Dr. Shürhozelie/T.R. Zeliang camp, the latter group’s tally would rise to 21 out of a total of 38 NPF legislators.
Notwithstanding the denial, sources within NPF Kohima had claimed that at least six from Niathu camp were ready to join Dr. Shürhozelie/T.R. Zeliang group. It was also speculated that the reconciliation proposal from Niathu camp was on condition that Dr. Shürhozelie be made the party legislature chief.
State chief minister T.R. Zeliang is still in New Delhi where he had gone to attend the NEC meet and also to meet with central leaders. T.R. Zeliang had postponed expansion/reshuffle of the ministry twice and when it will take place was not known.
