
Rainwater harvesting at Surumi village, Zunheboto district was constructed by 5 Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters 7 Sector Assam Rifles, IGAR (North), which was unveiled on April 10. The construction was carried out under Assam Rifles Civic Action Project (CAP) for the financial year 2014-15.
The project was handed over to council chairman Surumi village Akukau Hevishe GB by Asst Commandant D K Gurung.
With agriculture and cultivation being primary livelihood of villagers/rural population, water is one of the most necessary sources for the rural agricultural community.
Construction of rainwater harvesting facility has reduced the burdens and daily hardships of the community, especially during long dry season.
Also, construction of “rainwater harvesting scheme” at Surumi village has brought huge relief since the rural community/villagers were economically stable of taking up such activities.
Meanwhile, the GBs, village social political groups and locals have lauded and expressed gratitude to the 5 AR for their endeavours and assistance towards the uplift of the village.
