
Six persons including a lady were killed while two were seriously injured after a Wokha-bound Tata Sumo taxi from Dimapur rolled down some 2000 feet below the National Highway, at Topazulu, some 2 kms before reaching Tseminyu Old town junction Monday afternoon.
Tseminyu Sub Division administration sources told this correspondent over phone that four died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries. Of the six who died, four ( including a female) were from Wokha district while the other two were non-locals.
The female was identified as Hajano Odyuo (25) from Yanthamo village; Renbenthung Kikon (35) an IRB havaldar from Koio village; James Ngullie (28) from Yanthamo village; Nribemo Jungio (48) from Chudi village and Accountant in Eastern Bible College, Dimapur. The two non-Nagas who died were identified as Sheo Shankar Ram (40), an employee of DEF Mokokchung and another yet to be identified but believed to be Ram’s relative and aged around 26 years.
The Tata Sumo Taxi ( NL-06 T 0456) was carrying 11 persons including the driver and the 3-year old son of the deceased lady when the mishap occurred. The injured included – the 3-year old boy Arhomo who was thrown off; the infant’s father Chenio Odyuo of Yanthamo village; Orenthung Yanthan of Elumyu village and Yhuntnolo of Gukhanyu village and the driver- Libemo Tsopoe. They were released after administration of first aid at CHC Tseminyu.
Two others who were seriously injured, which included the husband of the deceased lady (and both hailing from Wokha district), were shifted to Kohima.
Tseminyu Sub Division administration and police, public and Assam Rifles rushed for the rescue operation. Later, Wokha district administration and police also reached the spot. Tsemyinyu Old Baptist church took the initiative to arrange shawls and coffins for the dead and also put up a donation box to aid the victims even as villages in an around Tseminyu Sub Division extended all possible help to the victims of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, Lotha Hoho and Kyong Eloe Hoho, whose leaders reached the spot, have conveyed condolences to families of six who died. They have also expressed gratitude to the Rengma Hoho, Assam Rifles, doctors and staff of CHC Tseminyu, Tseminyu Old town Baptist church, Tseminyu New town Baptist church, Phenwenyu village Baptist church, Wokha district administration and police, and Taxi Union Wokha for help rendered in various capacities.
