
National BJP president Amit Shah, while highlighting the BJP-led government’s initiative to develop the North Eastern region also sent a strong message that the Centre “will not tolerate corruption at any cost”.
Shah was addressing the Nagaland BJP unit office bearers at Chumkedima police complex on Friday. Shah who is on a four-day tour of the North Eastern states, arrived Dimapur Friday, accompanied by BJP’s national general secretary (Org.), Ram Lal and other party members.
“NE states including Nagaland does not lack funds and central assistance but corruption at many levels has hampered the developmental projects meant for the grass root level. Developmental policies and funds provided by the Central government for developmental purposes do not reach the people,” he said.
In this regard, Shah urged upon the state BJP members to take developmental schemes, spelled out by Modi government, to grassroots level and monitor them to keep a check on corruption.
During the meeting, besides developmental activities, Amit Shah also discussed about the law and order situation in the state.
According to a press statement issued by state BJP unit, on the political front, the party said Amit Shah was averse to having any alliance with the Congress. BJP said that the party president had categorically stated that “there can never be the BJP and the Congress in the same camp or in the same government.”
State BJP further said that Shah has assured the district presidents that an office would be built in all 11 district of the state.
He asked them to undertake major connectivity with tribals across the state for the party’s membership drive and help pass the message of Prime Minister to people for development of North Eastern states on a par with other states.
Later, Amit Shah held series of interaction with representatives of various tribal organizations, NGOs, besides members of the business community.
He also met leaders of all religions in Dimapur, including Muslims, Christians and Hindus. Amit Shah also called on the Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya and discussed schemes for welfare of tribals as well as the law and order situation in the state.
In the evening, Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang hosted a dinner for the visiting dignitaries and others at the Chumukedima police complex, Dimapur.
On arrival at Dimapur, Amit Shah was accorded a colourful Naga traditional reception and welcomed by the state party president, Dr. Chuba Ao, BJP MLAs– Dr. T.M. Lotha, Imtilemba Sangtam, Paiwang Konyak and Mhonlumo Kikon and host of party workers from all the 11 districts.
Party sources informed that the BJP president will depart for Guwahati on Saturday and later head to Delhi.
Scores of representatives representing various organisations such as Christian church leaders, representative of other religious organisations,state MPs, including ENLU and local media persons also held separate meetings with Amit Shah.
At a brief interaction with media, Amit Shah said he came to Nagaland on a goodwill mission and stressed on the BJP’s development agenda for the region. Amit Shah was also asked about attacks on churches and responded by saying that the party was against it. Shah also said his meetings with church leaders and various other organisations were positive and would also go through the various memoranda submitted to him.
