The scheduled visit of Minister of State (Independence charge) for Culture and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, to Nagaland on April 18 was called off citing unfavourbale weather condition.
During the visit, Sharma was scheduled to make announcement for construction of a regional convention centre at North East Zone Cultural Council (NEZCC). Besides the announcement, Sharma was also scheduled to visit the ruins of Dimasa Rajbari at Supermarket which has largely been left neglected.
A cultural programme which was prepared for the minister’s visit was held at NEZCC’s premises.
NEZCC Director, Lipokmar Tzudir, read out the message of Dr. Mahesh Sharma in which he assured that his next trip to Northeastern states would start from Dimapur. He also urged the local people not to be disheartened because of the failed visit.
Lipokmar regretted that ‘weather sometimes play spoil sports.’ He said NEZCC had been in need of proper spacious auditorium in the state and Northeast for which the minister’s visit was scheduled in the first place. However, since the construction of the auditorium had been approved in principle, he said its development would commence within a month or two. He informed that the proposed auditorium would be able to accommodate 2500 to 3000 people after its completion.
Various forms of arts were presented by young artistes from seven different states apart from Nagaland including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
Students in uniforms from different schools in Dimapur also attended the programme.
