With an aim to impart the youths about the awareness of teenage pregnancy and educate them on Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH), “Adolescent Club” performed a street play on the topic “Teenage pregnancy” Sunday at Longleng Town.
During the programme, BPM Longleng Sardar, Apen Phom highlighted about the formation of the club and how the club members have been actively participating in spreading the awareness on adolescent health.
Medical officer (SHP) Dr.Suimzenla gave health talk on Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC) and briefed on how the clinic provides treatment and counselling to the adolescent.
District Hospital Longleng, Medical Officer Dr. Zhekheli also encouraged the youth to avail the free service provided to them in the hospital. Altogether eight club members participated in the play.
PEREN: Focusing on Adolescent Reproductive Sexual Health (ARSH), district health society, CMO Peren in collaboration with the Adolescent Club and Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teachers and District IEC Team National Health Mission conducted the 2nd phase street play on the theme “Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriage” on April 18 at Kipeuzang Village, Peren district.
A press release by CMO office Peren stated the objective of the play was to provide accurate information and educate in the simplest form through local dialect (Zeliang).
Besides the play certain facilities were provided to the people like adolescent health clinics facility at the District Hospital, Peren, Community Health Centre at Jalukie and STI and HIV testing facilities in the District, stated the release.
KOHIMA: As part of the Japanese Encephalitis campaign under the aegis of National Health Mission, Kohima District Health Society had conducted its 2nd phase district level IEC/ BCC activities in “Adolescent Reproductive” and Sexual Health (ARSH) on April 17 at Nagabazar Baptist High School (NBHS).
Speaking on ARSH, Medical Officer (SHP), Dr. Akaholi Chishi, highlighted on maintaining good health and also sensitized on the physical and emotional changes that occurs during the period. She also stressed on the services available at adolescent friendly health clinics. Speaking on the importance of weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplement (WIFS), Dr. Akaholi spoke on anaemia problems, dangers of early pregnancy, hygienic issues to inculcate a healthy fitness life style amongst the students. She also mentioned on the adolescents, guide on abstinence. She said ‘abstinence is a good way to protect oneself from many reasons like risk pregnancy, protecting themselves from HIV & AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)’.
The programme was marked by presentation of street play which was performed by the students based on drug abuse leading to dangers of early marriage.
With co-ordination from the school, adolescent club also gave their effort to create awareness to their peer groups related to adolescent health issues.
Meanwhile, the school authority appreciated the work and challenged the department to carry out massive activities to impart and create better health seeking behaviour towards adolescent peer groups.
Altogether 280 attended programme. The programme was chaired by media officer, Kohima, Kungcham Dailiam.
