Sam Smith cancels entire Australian tour including the Logie Awards

Sam Smith has cancelled the remaining dates of his Australian tour, including an appearance at the 57th TV Week Logie Awards. The multi-award winning British musician said he was ‘deeply, deeply saddened’ by the news in a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon – just a few short hours before he was set to take to the stage in Sydney for a second night in a row. ‘I have been vocally exhausted for a while now, however, last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal chords,’ the recently slimmed down crooner continued in a statement issue by Frontier Touring.
‘The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal cords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. ‘I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me.’
Meanwhile, Frontier Touring reveal they are working with the 22-year-old Grammy award winner to reschedule a new run of shows for December 2015. The touring company reveal that current ticket holders ‘who purchased their tickets from the authorised outlets of Ticketek and Ticketmaster will be offered a first purchase option on the new tour.’
‘Tickets purchased by credit card will be refunded within seven days and patrons that purchased by cash or Eftpos will be contacted with instructions on how to obtain their refund,’ the statement added.
Sam had been scheduled to perform at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Tuesday; the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne on Thursday; the AEC Theatre in Adelaide on Friday; and the HBF Stadium in Perth on Monday – but all have now been cancelled. He was also set to perform at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on May 3 at the Logies Awards – similar to the US Emmys or British BAFTAs.
The news comes of his cancelled In The Lonely Hour tour just a day after the star was snapped getting a new tattoo of an anchor on his forearm in Sydney. The softly spoken British crooner took to his Instagram to share a snap and a video of the inking and captioned it: ‘For you, my little sailors,’ an affectionate term he uses to refer to supporters. The singer calls his fans his little sailors in reference to a song he wrote about the difficulty of trying to break into the music industry called Little Sailor.
