Kohima to have solid waste management facility

Funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB), Kohima town would soon have sustainable solid waste management facility below Helipad Lerie, Kohima some 3 km away from the National Highway.
Project director “State Investment program Management and Implementation Unit” (SIPMIU) Khupi Natso disclosed this during the site visit along with the Nagaland chief secretary Pankaj Kumar and other line department officials on Saturday.
Natso said around 57 tons of waste materials daily from Kohima town and the waste products would be segregated in dry and wet waste (recyclable & non-recyclable) and earn some income, not for profit, but for the sustainable of the project.  He informed that expert from various departments, which include solid waste, designer, road transport, technical and others were involved in this project.
Project director also said the total cost of project was estimated to be Rs. 39.11 crore and expected to spend around Rs.2.8 crore for its maintenance annually. 
SIPMIU officials said the backup and cooperation of the state government was badly required for the smooth functioning of this project. 
Earlier, the officials of SIPMIU, Urban department, PHED, municipal affairs, KMC and other line departments explained about the system and detail project to the chief secretary, who visited the site and had interaction with them.
