Awareness on ‘Child rights and street to school’ held

One day block level awareness programme on “Child rights and street to school” campaign was organized by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kohima under the aegis of State Child Protection Society Nagaland (SCPS-N) on May 20at Jakhama town hall.
 During the programme, legal-cum-probation officer, Kohima Megoneituo Kielienyü while addressing the gathering as a resource person said children are the future and “supreme assets” of the society. 
Emphasizing on the need to protect and nurture the children, Kielienyü said children were the future and need special care to be productive citizen.
 He elaborated on the four basic rights of children which include right to survival, right to protection, right to participation and right to development. 
Kielienyü also urged the villagers and leaders to create environment conductive for physical and mental wellbeing and asked them to take responsibility to safeguard their rights. 
He also called upon the organization of the village level to come forward and collaborate with DCPU and initiate measures for the underprivileged children in the Society. 
Kielienyü then appealed student leaders and school teachers to spread the awareness on child rights and protection and further requested the representatives from village body not to solve cases or issue relating to child at the village level.
While delivering the keynote address, district child protection officer (DCPO) Kohima Povezo Puro appealed all the villages to cooperate and support the awareness campaign. The programme was chaired by Counselor T. Pungoyi Nienu.
