Wokha AFP surveillance workshop

District acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) surveillance workshop was held on June 16 at the conference hall, chief medical officer (CMO) Wokha with surveillance medical officer WHO, Dr. Sheila Longkumer as resource person.
In her presentation, Dr. Sheila offered facts and figures of AFP surveillance report and pointed to that the threat of importation remained though India was declared as polio free since January 2011 and stated that it was crucial to maintain a sensitive AFB surveillance until polio was eradicated globally.
Dr Sheila said AFP could be reported in case of sudden onset of any form of weakness, in any part of the body in a child below 15 years within the last 6 months. 
She also asked the medical officers to fill up the case investigation form and notify to the concerned district programmme officers UIP/RCH for further clinical investigation in dealing with common cases like post diarrheal weakness, facial palsy and sudden limping on one foot (excluding injury).
She also briefed on measles surveillance report and the ongoing mission Indradhanush feedback and to make extra effort in spreading awareness and mobilization about the importance of immunization. 
Summing up the workshop, she urged the medical officers to be vigilant in reporting all case of flaccid paralysis irrespective of diagnosis and assessment of areas. The workshop was attended by SMOs, MOs and Asha coordinators.
