SN meets governor over magazine report

June 25, 2015 | by admin

Survival Nagaland (SN) called on the governor of Nagaland and Assam, P.B Acharya on June 23 to clarify certain quotes on “The Week” magazine published on March 22, 2015, wherein the governor had been interviewed by Seema Hussain. The governor admitted that he spoke about the splinter Naga group, as well as concerned for “the king-size corruption” in the state but denied having mentioned SN at all. Governor said that the writer, Seema Hussain referred to SN as the 7th rebel group which he said was “her own imagination” and “should apologize for this”.
Rueing that “money has become the power in a Christian state”, Acharya expressed concern over the colossal corruption in Naga society and hoped that the new generation will come out and fight against it if Nagas wanted a better Nagaland.
Earlier SN submitted a nine page memorandum and emphasized on two points, “ensuring that illegal immigrants, namely, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants (IBIs) do not further consolidate their foothold in the state having dire consequences for the future survival of Nagas; and that all such illegal immigrants should be identified and deported from the state” and “ensuring that the spirit of entrepreneurship of the Nagas is inculcated by harping on the age old value of “Dignity of Labor”, resulting in economic independence of Nagas”.
The representation aims to “create a mass awareness campaign on the dangers posed by the presence of IBIs by reaching out to every individual, colonies, villages, NGOs, mass-based organisations, and churches in the state. It believes that such a campaign should be educative in nature, peaceful and non-violent”.
Reiterating that “it is not against any mainland Indians” but against the influx of Bangladeshi illegal immigrants, SN affirmed that “Nagaland is the only state in India where its economy is controlled by outsiders”. Unless people learn to do business, SN said that “we are headed for economic dependence” and anti-social activities by disgruntled youths.
