Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) as part of its annual action plan for the Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club (NAGC) declared the month of June 2015 as “Eco Month”.
Addressing the students on “Eco Month”, assistant state coordinator SRCW, R. Juliana Medom urged the students to keep the environment clean, save water, and electricity.
Asserting that rapid changes were taking place in the society, she said due to increase of vehicles, usage of ACs, etc. harmful gases are emitted which lead to global warming.
Medom urged the students to protect the environment by explaining the concept of “my tree” and asked every student to plant more trees at home or elsewhere for the future generation.
She further emphasized on the need to save water by citing that “a drop of water if you let it continuously flow for a whole month, you will waste 1000 litres in a month”.
Targeting students and individuals as many as 1500 trees were distributed on the concept of “my tree” during “Eco Month”.
During the awareness programme, various herbal and medicinal values of trees were demonstrated with illustrations and students were asked to take a pledge and sign on the flagged diagram.
The diagrame read:  “I will always carry a cloth bag; I will always reject polythene covers while shopping, I will always close the tap when not in use, I will always switch off appliances when not in use, I will always segregate dry and wet waste in my house, I will always send papers and plastics for recycling, I will always plant a tree on Birthdays and Special occasions, I will always prefer shared transport, I will always use online tools and reduce wastage of papers and I will always share green living tips with others”.
