Bringing laurels to Nagaland, 24-year old nuclear engineer– Chireuding Zeliang son of Chusi Hieme of Gaili village under Peren district has been selected for an internship at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters under the Atomic division of the United Nations Organisation, Vienna, Austria.
Chireuding a master’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was among the 50 candidates selected by the IAEA from over 135 UN member nations.
He is the first amongst the Nagas to join the department of Nuclear Engineering and Technology Programme and would be working on data base development for nuclear reactor core/ fuel design and common cause users’ considerations for Small Modular Nuclear Reactors at the IAEA under the supervision of senior nuclear scientists.
Chireuding matriculated with first division from All Saint’s School, Peren in 2006 and graduated in Electrical Engineering with a first class from NERIST in 2012.
His Master’s thesis on Uncertainty and Reliability Analysis of Indian Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor is also being published in a scientific journal.
Zeliang People’s Organisation Nagaland, Zeliang Mipui Maadi, Nagaland and Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland have expressed great joy and said that this feat of Chireuding’s portentous achievement should be an encouragement to the upcoming Naga students.
