NTC on unabated taxation & threat

July 17, 2015 | by admin

Drawing attention to “life threat of certain NPG group to tax defaulters and whistleblowers”, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) on Thursday said the issue of “unabated taxation” on the citizens of Nagaland for decades in the guise of legitimacy was a matter of great concern for all.
In a press release, publicity cell, NTC said state government, which has the mandate of the people, has the legal right to tax on its citizens as much as it was accountable to the citizens and the amount spend was auditable.
Asserting that Nagas had never given mandate to “a divided struggle for self-determination”, NTC said factionalism or re-grouping of mandated movement had compromised the people’s aspiration, hence, disqualified the legitimacy leading to misuse for extortion and intimidation and threats to lives. It maintained that any group, which claimed to be the patriot and fighting for the protection and aspirations of the people while threatened the fellow Naga, was a misdemeanour. Stating that multiple and unabated taxation in Nagaland was contrary to people’s welfare, the NTC expressed its solidarity to ACAUT and all likeminded organizations on their stand against illegal taxation.
Further, asserting that October 31, 2013 resolutions against unabated taxation were the collective property of the peace loving citizens, NTC said the “patriotic Nagas” must respect the voice of the people. Meanwhile, appreciating ACAUT and Phek district cabbage farmers for transporting a few tonnes of cabbage from Phek to Dimapur “free of tax”, NTC said “this is a feat, and the longing of the people, a land free from misunderstanding, hatred, suppression, unabated taxations and threats to life and peaceful co-existence.”
Seriously viewing the business syndicate system, monopoly and hoarding of commodities to create artificial inflations, NTC urged the concern authorities to check the menace and rescue the people.
