Nagaland Home Minister Y.Patton including various organizations have condemned the July 16 firing incident where two innocent students were killed and a woman injured at Phor village under Meluri sub-division.
In a press release, Patton expressed serious concern over the fallout of the killing of two NSCN (K) cadres by Assam Rifles on July 15 at Avangkhu and subsequent deaths of two innocent minors and another lady who was injured in the firing.
Patton said it was very unfortunate that the incident happened at a time when members of the Parliamentary Working Committee (PWC) were engaged in a series of meetings with Prime Minister, Home Minister and others to pressurize them to expedite an early settlement to the Naga political issue and also to resume cease-fire with NSCN (K). He said such incidents “hinder the process” and also created tension and fear psychosis in the minds of the villagers.
Patton further appealed to the security forces to be sensitive to the Naga issue while discharging duties, keeping in mind that the state government, its people and other agencies have been working to bring permanent peace in the land. He also appealed to NSCN (K) “to listen to the voice of the people” and resume the ceasefire with Government of India since only through ceasefire, a process for settlement to the long drawn out Naga political issue was possible.
Meanwhile, the State Government has paid an ex-gratia of Rs one Lakh each to the family of the two deceased students, while Rs. 25000 was handed over to the injured woman. Also, the magisterial inquiry has been made into a judicial inquiry to be headed by a judge.
PMA: Pochury Mothers’ Association (PMA) has vehemently condemned the senseless murder of two innocent school going children namely- Tüzali and Aso and injury on Esther Vitsürho.
PMA president Machü Joshou termed the act of 46 AR as “the highest crime against humanity” where instead of protecting innocent citizens, security forces had once again showed vengeance against innocent citizens under the garb of the draconian law, AFSPA. The PMA said killing innocent civilians would only create hatred between the public and SF and also rebuked the statement of IGAR (N), who denied that his troops fired at the public and blaming some armed persons.
PMA said there was no iota of truth in it and questioned the IGAR as to whether the SF rule of engagement was to fire at the innocent civilians?
PMA appealed to all citizens and organisations to rise up and condemn such “senseless killing of innocent public” and also urged upon the state government to take up the issue at the highest level and award befitting punishment to those responsible.
Meanwhile, PMA conveyed deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family members.
ENSF: Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) out-rightly condemned the “odious act of the AR jawans which led to the killing two innocent school children” at Phor village. ENSF president Shahsha L Menhahu and general secretary Honang M Jessuhu said no one was above the law and taking the law into one’s hands was a criminal act.
By such acts inflicted upon students, the AR personnel instead branded themselves as the ‘Foes of the hill people’ and injected fear psychosis upon the younger generation.
Such antagonistic attitude would never solve the decades-old Naga political issue and instead, would cause the flame to be beyond control and tolerance, said ENSF.
It said the loss of two precious lives was intolerable and a clear violation of human rights.
Terming the act as “dismantling the dreams”, ENSF appealed to the state government to set up the SIT, to immediately probe into the incident so as to deliver justice to the bereaved souls. ENSF also expressed condolences to the families of the departed souls. It also appealed to the AR and Indian Army to “refrain/abstain from inflicting its frustration upon innocent public and be a true guardian to citizens.
ENSF said every Naga did not appreciate the situation after the abrogation of cease-fire between NSCN (K) and government of India (GoI) but reiterated, that no innocent should suffer on account of such manipulative stand of both the parties at war.
It said despite over a decade-old peace talks between NPGs and GoI, Nagas were still left in the dark about the content of the talks. ENSF wondered what the actual cause behind abrogation of the cease-fire and reiterated that citizens have every right to know the truth.
ENSF also appealed NSCN (K) to understand the plight of the innocent Nagas suffering on account of its tough stand against the situation. ENSF expressed the hope that NSCN(K) would heed to the voices of the people and return to the negotiating table as a true Naga soul for peace and solution.
Further, ENSF said if forcible recruitment was true as claimed by the government of India, then NSCN(K) and all NPGs should immediately denounce such acts of cruelty. ENSF said it strongly opposed and condemned such atrocity that would distort the young minds in depriving the freedom to shape their own future.
ENSF said it upheld ENPO resolution in declaration of Eastern Nagaland as “Peace Zone” and the subsequent peace rally held on May 22, 2015, wherein it appealed to all NPGs, AR and Indian Army to abide by the wishes and aspiration of the people of the land and to refrain from any “hot pursuit” or bloodshed within its jurisdiction and the entire Naga inhabited areas in general.
RSZ: Rengma Selo Zi (Rengma Youth Organization) has vehemently condemned the killing of innocent students and injuring an elderly woman at Wuzu village on July 16 by Assam Rifles.
In a press release, RSZ president Kenneth Kath and general secretary Shatilo Kent also condemned the shootout between AR and NSCN (K) at Avakhung Village on July 15.
RSZ reminded both parties that they are to provide security to the public as a whole and not to victimize them. Such act of terror which traumatizes and creates fear psychosis among the public has no place in a peaceful society, RSZ said.
