Massive landslides hit Zunheboto district

Following incessant rainfall in the past few days, massive landslides across Zunheboto district has crippled normal life and damaged properties worth several lakhs of rupees. Friday’s landslide across several areas damaged houses, paddy fields, vehicles and livestock. Around 50 families were affected while most of them have been rendered homeless. According to reports, seven persons were also injured in the landslide.
EAC, Aghunato informed that the only lifeline to the area has been completely cut off due to road-block. 
The most affected areas in Zunheboto town were- DC Hill colony, Alahuto colony, North Point colony and Nito Mount centre. Four children, all minors, were reportedly dragged down several metres below along with the debris but were rescued by volunteers. Volunteers led by Sümi Hoho and other organizations were all engaged in rescue and relief work at various locations.
Meanwhile, with water above normal at Tizü and Tsütha rivers, several paddy fields along the river banks have been severely affected.
Sumi frontal organizations have appealed to the District administration and concerned authority to take stock of the situation and extend all possible assistance to the affected families.
The organizations have also appealed to all to come forward and extend all possible support in the relief works. District administration headed by DC Zunheboto, ADC, SDO and officials along with frontal organizations jointly visited all the sites to assess the situation. ADC Zunheboto and administrator ZTC, Amen Imchen informed that a report was sent to Kohima for the intervention. Some of the victims were also given temporary monetary relief.
