Incessant rain on July 23 has triggered heavy flooding in the catchment area and basin of Tizu river– Zunheboto, Tuensang and Phek districts, destroying acres of paddy fields.
In a press release, DC Phek Murohu Chotso informed that the water has reached to the “highest level” particularly under Phek district, which has destroyed terrace fields located on the banks of the river. The flooding has submerged acres of paddy fields.
Though damaged caused could not be ascertained, DC said that the detailed value of destruction and victims of each village would be submitted by the concerned village council.
The incident has severely affected the poor villagers whose livelihood solely depend cultivations, he added.
DC stated that it was the recurrence of the 1949 flood where all the paddy fields on Tizu river banks were destroyed.
