
Parliamentary secretary for soil & water conservation Pukhayi Sumi has expressed concern that GBs in Nagaland were losing their past glories and power because of their own misdoings.
Speaking at the 31st Sumi Kukami (GBs) Hoho as the chief guest, in Town Hall Zunheboto Friday, Pukhayi lamented that the traditional respect and authority accorded to the Naga GBs was gradually losing its splendour.
He exhorted the GBs to rise to the need of the present society and led the people to development and prosperity. Pukhayi also urged them to maintain peace and tranquillity in their respective jurisdictions so that developments were not hampered.
Pukhayi also encouraged the GBs to govern their villages in the right way and asked them to control and curb anti social elements within their own jurisdictions.
He briefly highlighted the origin of Sumis from Kezakhano and Angami, Chakesang and Sumi were siblings. Pukhayi also exhorted GBs on moral, religion, unity, politics and various other issues and urged for brotherhood and forgiveness.
Pukhayi informed them on the formation of NLF and on the sincerity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to solve the Naga issue.
Earlier, he began his speech by conveying condolences at the demise of former president A.P.J Abdul Kamal and said that Nagaland government was observing a week long mouring.
Pukhayi said the government has asked all legislators to abstain from attending social functions however he said he could not miss out the function as GBs play a vital role in moulding the society.
The program was chaired by general secretary, SKH Er. Hukato Shohe while Ghovito Zhimomi gave a welcome and presidential address. Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto Temsu Longkumer also graced the program.
Special numbers was presented by ZTSBC Choir and NTC Nito Mount in a programme attended by around 1187 GBs from 402 villages under SKH. New team of executives for the next tenure was also nominated and elected during the second session of the programme.
