
Along with the rest of the country, social welfare department, Dimapur is observing ‘National nutrition week’ from September 1-7 on the theme “better nutrition: key to development”.
On Friday, as part of its week long activities, a programme was organized at tribal welfare complex Diphupar with OSD directorate of social welfare, Keweu Kenye and LHV Dimapur, Toshini as resource persons.
The main objective of the campaign was to create awareness on the importance of nutrition for health which has far reaching implications on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.
Dwelling on the topic “environmental effect on health”, Keweu emphasized on global environmental change that is threatening human health on an unprecedented scale.
She said the need of the hour, is to focus on providing adequate food for all. To this, she said the availability of supplies of food as well as household access to such supplies either through production, purchase or other means should be determined.
She added that when food accessibility is ensured, every households and individuals would have adequate resources for nutritious diet.
While speaking on “child health nutrition”, Toshini emphasized on creating awareness to prevent malnutrition.
According to Toshini, one third of the world’s undernourished child live in India, where about 46 % of the children below three years in India are under weight.
She said under nutrition in early child hood lead to poor academic performance, reduces work capacity and poor health.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPO Dimapur, S.Nezolu Rhakho while DWO Dimapur, Toshili Zhimomi invoked God’s blessing.
Special number was presented by trainees AWWs and vote of thanks was proposed by C.I, AWTC Diphupar, Kelevinu Naleo. The programme was followed by field trip to ICAR Medziphema for demonstration and food preservation.
