GPRN/NSCN has refuted the news reports that the group had withdrawn its support to the peace accord and on the resignation of its president ‘Gen.’ (Retd) Khole Konyak.
In a press release, GPRN/NSCN MIP secretary Moa Walling stated that the GPRN/NSCN had in no point of time/occasion declared its support or not to support the peace accord signed between Government of India and NSCN (I-M). Since GPRN/NSCN had nothing to do with any accord or agreement, Walling said: “We acknowledge and appreciate the accord or deal between them if it is something good for them. And therefore we don’t have problem neither oppose for what they are doing.”
On the report of its president tendering his resignation, Walling said that ‘Gen.’ (Retd) Khole Konyak never tendered his resignation nor the Government had any such issues.
“It’s just a small brains game, which is trying to complicate the Naga issue or maybe some group trying to create more mistrust and misunderstandings among the members,” he added.
Walling pointed out that such kind of tricks won’t have any negative impact towards GPRN/NSCN’s integrity.
“We are well aware of such propagations and dirty politics played upon, the Government will take its proper inquiry and initiate serious action towards those who are trying to tarnish the image of GPRN/NSCN”, he cautioned.
According to IANS report, citing a source, it stated that Khole Konyak resigned citing old age as the reason.
The source reportedly close to Khole, said that the leader was waiting for the acceptance of his resignation by other senior members of the group.
“Khole Konyak has submitted his resignation. Recently, he openly said in a meeting that he wanted to retire. He said his age is not supporting him. Mentally he is not prepared and said he felt physically weak,” the source told IANS.
