
PMSBY, PMJJBY SCHEMES LAUNCHED
State’s first Parcel Booking Centre (PBC) under the department of Posts and Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), government of India was inaugurated Thursday chief postmaster general, North East circle, Shillong S.C. Barmma here Thursday at Dimapur Bazaar Sub-Post office, Naharbari. PBC is in partnership with Bamboo Mission and Global University, Nagaland
Speaking at the inaugural programme, S.C. Barmma lamented that Nagaland and other North Eastern states being a “backward region” was “neglected” by the Central government whereby PBC could not be set up in this region.
He stated that Rs.9 lakh has been invested in setting up PBC in Dimapur and informed that all kinds of parcel booking and delivery would be done from the newly inaugurated centre. He also informed that online tracking facilities will be available to track the parcels using a base code.
Barmma said the parcel booked from the centre will be sent to Guwahati by train, air or another means of transportation depending on destination and added that it would be delivered within 5 to 6 days. He also said free pick-up, Book Now Pay Later (BNPL) and discount would be provided to “cooperative and bold customers”.
It was also informed that the department of Posts has also launched the Prime Minister Jan Suraksha schemes namely Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBJ), an accident insurance eligible for 18 to 70 years with annual premium of Rs 12 and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), life insurance eligible for 18 to 50 years of age with annual premium of Rs.330.
Talking to media persons after the programme, chief postmaster said as a part of the effort of government of India to include all sections of the society under financial umbrella, the department of Posts has been entrusted to implement the schemes throughout the country especially in rural and tribal areas through post office network under Core Banking Schemes (CBS).
He said in this regard the department has launched PMSBJ and PMJJBY and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and also informed that a scheme for girl child would be launched shortly. He also said NE postal circle has launched these schemes in seven post offices under core banking network in NE region excluding Assam.
Briefing on CBS, Barmma said when core banking networking office expands the schemes will be implemented gradually in all 292 post offices. It was a part of Prime Minister’s Jana Dhan programme to reach out all the marginalized rural masses for financial inclusion, he added.
On behalf of NE postal circle, the chief postmaster also appealed the public to avail the existing saving schemes like Monthly Income Scheme (MIS), Saving Bank (SB), newly launched Kisa Vikas Patra (KVP), Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA), Postal Life Insurance (PLI), Popular Rural Life Insurance (PRLI).
Meanwhile, DPS (HQ) NE, Shillong Som Kamei and chairman, Naharbari Village Council (NVC) Tokheli Kikon delivered short speeches.
Earlier, welcome speech was delivered by director postal services, Nagaland K.I.Singh while vote of thanks was proposed by inspector of post office, Dimapur E.Yanthan. The programme was attended by sub-post office, Diampur staff, officials from Kohima post office, Naharbari village GBs, leaders, invitees and public.
