Reacting to the demand by ACCCs for withdrawal of the petition for disqualification of eight suspended Congress legislators, NPCC president K. Therie said AICC officials- general secretary (NE) V. Narayanasamy and secretary (Nagaland) Dr. Jayakumar reviewed the matter at a meeting on September 24.
In a statement, Therie informed that the AICC officials have placed a condition that the demand could be met if the government which the suspended Congress legislators have joined, was minus the BJP.
Further, Therie said he had made it clear to former NPCC president and CLP leader, in presence of the general secretary AICC, that there was no objection in supporting or participating in a government provided,” BJP is not there”. He also said the AICC general secretary had maintained, that AICC would have no objection in supporting T.R. Zeliang or Neiphiu Rio group, on the condition, that the BJP was not in either group.
Therie expressed regret that the name of AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi was dragged during Thursday’s incident in Kohima. He said the delegation that met Rahul assured him, that since political solution was “coming very soon during this period” the matter of disqualification be kept pending. He said Rahul called the AICC general secretary (NE) and asked the latter to wait till August 31. Therie said on August 3 the Naga Peace Accord was signed, even though the contents have not been made public and the abrogation of cease fire between NSCN(K) and the government of India having “turned out differently”.
The NPCC president also regretted, that charges were hurled at the chief guest, AICC general secretary and guest of honour, the AICC secretary (Nagaland) on Thursday and also shown disrespect and humiliated “in our land with un-parliamentary words”. Therie reiterated that he would be “happy to withdraw disqualification, provided AICC issue directives.”
He further reminded party members in the state, that they were all party of the INC party and bound to abide by decisions and directives of the AICC regarding disciplinary action on AICC members, MLAs and MPs.
He also said that on June 26, 2015 the NPCC executive resolved to abide by the decision and directive of the AICC in matters involving disciplinary action against the eight legislators and which was also released to the local press.
Therie disclosed, that the disqualification petition was settled by the AICC which authorized the AICC secretary (Nagaland) and NPCC president, to sign on the petition on behalf of AICC. Therie said he had obediently signed on the petition on behalf of the AICC, in abiding with the decision and directives of the AICC.
On the issue of Rs.712 crore released for RoP in 2012, Therie said it appeared like it was a “crime against the people of Nagaland”.
He clarified, that AICC general secretary (NE) V. Narayanasamy was then MoS attached to the PM. Therie said giving him (Narayanasamy) credit for release of the fund “was good” but “wrong” to accept it. Instead of bring grateful for the grant, Therie said those who raised banners made it appear as if Narayanasamy had “committed a crime against our people”.
Therie asserted that Congress had always shown matured leadership in the past and there was no issue that could not be resolved through discussion. However, he said the pertinent issue was the Congress ideology and principle cannot be compromised “with communal ideology and principle of RSS-BJP”. He said this was the point of division between the Congress and BJP and that if it could be digested, then the present issue would be resolved.
On being pro-BJP, Therie countered, that those making the charges were hand in glove with the BJP in the government for all purposes. He also swore he had never spoken about wishing to join the BJP, as alleged. He said as a political student, he did not accept the ideology of fascism adopted by RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
