Wokha division and Doyang Plantation Division (DPD) jointly observed Wildlife Week 2015 on October 8at Libemo Memorial School (LMS), Wokha, where about 1000 students enthusiastically participated in the quiz and painting competitions.
A press release by divisional forest officer DPD, Zuthunglo Patton IFS, stated that students were asked to speak for the voiceless animals and be ambassadors for the last of the wildlife in Nagaland. It also stated that competitions in both quiz and painting were organised for junior, middle and senior categories, starting from Class II to X.
The release stated that principal LMS, Mitra encouraged the students to be aware about the importance of wildlife conservation, in keeping with the theme of the year. Others who attended the celebration were RFO Doyang, Jweni Semp, staff of Doyang and faculty of LMS.
The quiz teams consisted of the Falcons, the Eagles, the Ravens and the Doves, with the Falcons emerging as the winners and the Ravens as Runners-up.
The winners of the painting competition in the junior, middle and senior categories were Zuthungbemo Odyuo of Class IV, Arena V. Kithan of Class VII and Zarenthung Patton of Class VIII respectively, stated the release.
TUENSANG: Wildlife week observed at Tuensang under the theme “creation: the reflection of God’s magic” along with the churches of Pongching, Yaong, Longleng, Sitap church under Longleng and Sitap ranges on October 4.
A press release by divisional forest officer Tuensang, Dr. Sentila IFS stated that the entire events were conducted with strong emphasis and understanding that every creature in this universe is created with a specific purpose and human being are created to look after them as a guardian but not to harm them.
Banners, pamphlets and bookmarks with a message “birds are the harbinger of hope vitality and life” were distributed to the entire congregation in all the churches while forest officials appreciated the initiative of Yaong villagers in constructing a watch tower to welcome its esteemed guest, the Amur Falcon.
Wildlife week in Tuensang was celebrated with initiatives from forest range and eco clubs and various competitions under the theme, such as drawing, essay were conducted for the students and forest department distributed cash prizes for the winners and free gifts to all the participants.
Meanwhile, Loyem Memorial High School, Tuensang organized a trekking cum field trip to commemorate the ‘world wildlife week’ which was organized by Eco Club LMHS Tuensang on October 3, under the theme “Living with Wild life”.
The main purpose of the trip was to know and learn the fauna of that particular region where the students also studied about the pollution caused by humans which pollutes and disturbs the natural beauty. More than 45 students participated in the Trip; the group was divided into three teams each under a teacher in charge where the teams go for different locations to study the natural habitat of that particular region.
Speaking on the theme, assistant teacher Mono Khiam stressed on the students that the species too felt the same like the humans and urged to stop killing animals.
He also took out the species which are on the verge of extinction and urged the students that it is the duty of the students in particular to educate the masses of the society.
Administrator and principal Debashish Deb lauded the sincere effort made by Eco Club under teacher in-charge Eco Club Mongtson Khiam and wished all the participating students that they had learnt a great deal to educate the masses of the society.
