Nagaland Coal Mining & Marketing Welfare Society (NCMMWS), Dimapur, consisting of representatives from Mon, Tuensang, Wokha and Mokokchung held a meeting under the chairmanship of T.N. Manen IAS (Rtd) on November 4.
In a press note convener-cum-general secretary, Dr. Senti Jamir said in the meeting the house discussed on issues relating to strengthening the organizational structure, including sub-unit offices in all coal mining districts.
It stated that other issues discussed in the meeting included improving government revenue collection out of mining and transportation of Nagaland coal.
Observing the massive revenue leakages through misused of challans, illegal collections at exit gates and in all police forest check gates in Assam, the house also decided that all government coal transportation shall be done through genuine license in all sectors.
It resolved that transportation shall be allowed only through challans (TP) issued through treasury challans and temporary challan issued at the gates by geology and mining department officials shall be stopped to minimize revenue leakages. NCMMWS informed that challans or any other documents issued by the government of Nagaland should be acceptable in other states as well.
The house also resolved that society members would discuss with state government revenue collection, streamlining of licensing policy, economic use of Nagaland coal as the means of rural economic development of the people.
NCMMWS also informed that the exemption of central excise duty under the central excise Act 1944 as in the case of coal mining in the state of Meghalaya (as notified under No-5/2010-CEC, dated 22.6.10) need to be immediately obtained by the state government.
