Angami Students’ Union (ASU) in collaboration with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) would be organizing a sanitation day on November 14 from 7 a.m. onwards under the theme “shining Kohima, never clean, ever clean”.
The “shining Kohima project” would be launched at Old MLA hostel junction Kohima by minister forest, environment and climate change Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as the chief guest.
This was announced by convener organizing committee Kezhazer Angami during the press conference held at ASU office Kohima and attended by organizing committee members and ASU officials.
Kezhazer Angami said that the project was a humble initiative to clean Kohima and to create a platform for all citizens of Kohima to have a sense of ownership and belongingness in cleaning the city and its environment.
He said emphasis must be laid on every individual dwellers of the city to responsibly and conscientiously make sanitation a way of life and living.
Kezhazer then pointed out that keeping the city clean should become a lifelong process and encouraged the citizens to practice the habit beyond Kohima as well.
President ASU Dievi Yano informed that around 200 volunteers, youth from various colonies and public would join the social work and appealed the public to bring machete (dao), broom and spade.
ASU has invited all the citizens to actively participate in the event especially the various student bodies, tribe Hohos based in Kohima, colony/ward panchayats, women, youth, government officials, churches and other organizations.
The union has also called the neighbouring villages of Kohima town such as Kohima village, Merima, Chedema, Rusoma, Jotsoma and Phesama to mark the day by cleaning their respective villages and towns.
ASU confirmed the participation of Kohima Chamber of Commerce and industries (KCCI), business establishments, besides various departments including the district administration, police, R & B, PHED, DPDB to assist in the mass social work.
The organizing committee informed that on social work day the activities to be done are clearing of roadside bushes/shrubs/weeds, clearing roadside drains, sweeping of colony streets/roads etc. and has appealed all the colony council/panchayats, colony youth organization , schools, college students, churches to clean their respective localities. The committee also informed the work distribution: cleaning of WW11 tank area by police personnel under SP Kohima, D.G.P point vicinity by DGP staff, TCP gate- classic island by ASU range units, TCP gate – paramedical bridge by PHED, ongoing road repair site by PWD (R&B).
