NSF opposes promotion of Nagamese

NSF has said that it was baffled by the proposal of the government of India (GoI) to promote Nagamese as an official language. Stating that the intention of the centre to promote a language that had no originality was “very much doubtful”, NSF asked GoI not to take any hasty decision, which could dilute the culture and social fabrics of Naga society.
NSF said Nagas need more time to develop and promote a language that could be called as their own ‘Naga Language’ and not a market language, which was a mixture of Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, English and many other dialects. It stated that attempt to promote a language that had no origin and terming it as a Naga language would do more harm to the Naga people.
NSF also advised linguistic experts and activists, who were “enthusiastic” in promoting the “pidgin language” as the official lingua franca of the Nagas, to immediately stop from confusing the Nagas any further. NSF affirmed that any kind of recognition or promotion of language, tradition and customs of the Nagas without the concern of the Nagas would not be accepted and tolerated at all.
